District 3 incumbent Leigh Ann Ellis last night lost her seat on the Dallas ISD board of trustees to Bruce Parrott in a runoff election.
And in the fight for the District 9 board trustee vacant seat, which had been held by Ron Price until he decided not to seek re-election, newcomer Bernadette Nutall handily beat Sally Cain. Nutall won 66 percent of the ballots cast.
Parrott, a political newcomer and spouse of Lois Parrott, a former DISD board trustee, jumped ahead in the early voting leg of the election and never looked back.
Parrott’s victory was not a landslide, but it wasn’t a close contest either. Parrot won 54 percent of the almost 2,500 ballots cast while Ellis claimed 46 percent of the low-turnout vote.
Parrott credited his deep roots in the East Dallas community for the win.
“A lot of people know me and my family. And the Parrott name helped,” he said. “I can’t say enough about the people in District 3. They know the issues. They know they want transparency in DISD finances. This [the campaign] has been a humbling experience in that voters have put their trust in me.”
